Hindutva is a far-right nationalist ideology that aims to establish India as a Hindu-only nation. It is driven by the belief that India should prioritize Hindu cultural and religious dominance.
Though it originated in India, Hindutva’s influence has spread globally, including to the United States. It affects Indian diaspora communities and promotes religious intolerance, impacting democratic values abroad.
Hindutva’s rise is not just an Indian issue. It has led to human rights violations and fueled religious and ethnic divisions within Indian-American communities in the U.S., making it a global concern for democracy and pluralism.
Babri Masjid Demolition – A Hindutva-led mob demolished a centuries-old mosque in Ayodhya, leading to widespread anti-Muslim violence.
Gujarat Riots – Over 1,000 people, mostly Muslims, were killed in communal riots in Gujarat under the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) – Passed, providing fast-track citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from neighboring countries, seen as discriminatory against Muslims.
Farmers' Protests – Sikh farmers protested laws that would disadvantage small farmers, labeled as "Khalistani" by Hindutva-aligned media.
Hijab Ban in Karnataka – A ban on wearing the hijab in schools in Karnataka, a move seen as an attempt to suppress Muslim identity.
